JOB SUMMARY
Supports clinical performance through abstraction, review, and reporting of medical record clinical documentation and billing assessment, to support initiatives related to quality improvement, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Others may be assigned.
- Abstract moderate to highly complex clinical data using established definitions and guidelines and maintain an abstracting volume to meet internal and external reporting deadlines.
- Perform clinical review of a medical record and summarize the findings to facilitate additional review.
- Conducts analysis of data in cooperation with the medical staff to assist in identification of improvement activities.
- Understands current issues, practices and trends in healthcare
- Provides documented reports of findings from data collection as requested
- Attend education classes to build and maintain knowledge of the expections of this positions

- Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Working knowledge of clinical workflows
- Electronic Health Systems
- ICD-9 and CPT codes

- Exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives.
- Analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, policy-making bodies, third-party payers, patients, and the public.
- Organizing work, making assignments, and achieving goals and objectives.
- Exercising judgment and discretion in developing, applying, interpreting, and coordinating departmental policies and procedures.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience preferred to perform the job.
- Minimum education of a High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Prior experience with clinical chart review, health information management and/or core measure data abstraction is preferred.
