The VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) Special Procedures Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse who provides leadership and assumes continuous responsibility for the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance and evaluation of patients, pre, intra, and post procedure in cardiac catheterization lab, bronchoscope, Endoscopy and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertion procedures. Duties include, but not limited to: * Cath Lab procedures that are performed include, but not limited to: Heart Catheterization, Trans-Esophageal Echocardiogram (TEE), Elective Cardioversion, Permanent Pacemaker Implantation (PPM), Automatic Internal Cardiac Defibrillator (AICD). * Endoscopy procedures that may be performed include, but are not limited to: Colonoscopy, Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tube placement and replacement. * Bronchoscopy procedures that may be performed include, but are not limited to: Bronchoscopy, EBUS Bronchoscopy and may entail gathering specimens, washings and pathology slide creation. * Conducting both pre- and post-procedure phone calls to all assigned patients and documenting calls as required. * Familiar (doses, effects, side or negative effects, signs and symptoms of negative effects and reversal process) with the medications commonly used in assigned area. * Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that could impact the patient admission and discharge. * Guides others in the recognition of and participates in the resolution of ethical issues. * Collaborates and develops relationships both internally and externally to better meet the patient's needs. * Collaborates with physicians, nurse managers, charge nurses, utilization managers, and discharge planners to identify, analyze and resolve care problems.
