The Licensed Practical Nurse demonstrates technical proficiencies in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to patient populations in the Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) of the Alexandria VA Health Care System. The UCC LPN duties include, but are not limited to: Prepares, administers, and recognizes the effects related to age specific factors of prescribed medications; oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous and performs treatments according to approved local facility policies/procedures; Participates in developing, implementing and documenting the Veteran and/or caregiver educational plan. Evaluates and documents the teaching plan in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team; Demonstrates knowledge and skill in performing support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the Veteran, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the Veteran's condition before, during, and following the procedure; Acknowledges Veteran concerns by listening and offering assistance within the scope of practice. Establishes constructive relationships with individual Veterans and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication and socialization skills; Cares for Veterans in accordance with established nursing procedures, standards of care, VA ethical standards and plan of care.
