Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, provides direction and coordination over the operation of the Nursing Department to ensure that the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times. Assesses training needs, plans and implements in-service education programs and new hire orientation for employees. Monitors the nursing staff for compliance with Ohio Department of Health (ODH) regulations and assures compliance with all ODH requirements. Recruitment responsibilities for the nursing department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for overseeing the operations of the memory care unit to ensure overall quality services and residents’ needs meet or exceed regulatory requirements and LSS Kensington Place expectations. Communicates regularly with the families, Executive Director (ED), and others as necessary to ensure that quality services and residents’ needs are met.
Acts as a liaison between residents, their families, staff, and the general public responding to inquiries and providing information on assisted living care and services. Leads or participates in screening prospective and existing residents to ensure staff have the ability to provide the level of care necessary. Partners with Director of Nursing to develop, implement, and document a multi-disciplinary approach to resident care.
Evaluates, monitors, and manages staffing levels and availability to ensure optimal quality of care while minimizing overtime.
Provides leadership, development and work direction to the memory care staff of Kensington Place. This includes the selection, orientation, coaching, performance feedback, discipline, and termination of employees as necessary. Ensures continuous, effective, appropriate staff development and training via in-service programs tailored toward the specialized needs of memory care patients and in accordance with regulatory standards and requirements.
Monitors and assures proper documentation standards and practices are in place to manage, monitor and track the care of the memory care residents.
Coordinates purchasing of supplies, monitoring budget and validating and coding invoices.
Assure facility compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and other regulatory agencies and facility policies and procedures.
Assist in establishing a high quality of resident care; performs daily rounds.
Assists with the investigations of all incidents, falls, skin, elopements in compliance with policy and procedure.
Conduct and documents mandatory in-services and orientation for all of Kensington Place staff, and all areas of nursing educational needs.
Shares responsibility with the Memory Care Program Manager to provide on-call and nurse coverage.
Collaborates with ED and Memory Care Program Manager in process and program development within the nursing department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: This position requires licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current, active license in the State of Ohio.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years experience in a medical field preferably an Assisted Living or Long-Term Care environment.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Able to effectively communicate and listen to families, residents, and staff.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practice and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care operations.
Skilled in utilizing teaching strategies which can be adapted to the needs of Kensington Place.
Knowledgeable in long-term care survey process
Be compassionate, friendly, kind, and understanding of the needs of the elderly.
Management and supervisory skills.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, families, and support agencies.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide range of people.
Microsoft Word and Excel or other word processing or spreadsheet programs.
Flexibility in managing schedule including weekends and evening hours.
Valid Ohio driver’s license, access to reliable insured transportation and ability to meet LSS insurance standards required
